Why Wait For The New Year?

The idea of observing the New Year started in 2000 BC in Mesopotamia, celebrated mid-March around the vernal equinox. The calendar then had only ten months, beginning with March. Around 700 BC January and February were added and the New Year moved to January in line with the beginning of the civil year, the month that newly elected Roman consuls began their one-year term.

January was named after Janus, the Roman god of gateways and beginnings and, with most countries using the Gregorian calendar, New Year’s Day is probably the most celebrated public holiday with many associated traditions, including making New Year’s resolutions.

So what will be your resolutions, your new beginnings, this New Year? Are you going to get fit, go to the gym and really stick with it this time? Are you going to set out big goals and make a plan to really make lifestyle changes this time? Or will it be like all the last times and we’ll have this same conversation in twelve month’s time?

It drives me nuts to see people stuck in a situation they want to change, a less than joyful job or hitting a financial ceiling and not knowing how to break through it. That’s why I do what I do, help people break barriers and make lifestyle changes.

Resolutions aren’t just for New Year. Start NOW, decide what you want your life to be about and make a plan to get there.
